SAN RAMON, Calif. – Headlined by Jaime Jacob’s stellar play and dominant season for the Cougars which culminated in last week’s team and individual CCAA championship titles, Cal State San Marcos earned three of the four individual awards along with placing five on the All-CCAA First Team, as voted on by the leagues’ six head coaches.

Jacob won five individual championships in 2018 and posted Top 10 finishes in seven of the Cougars’ nine events. At the inaugural CCAA championships, she carded a second-round 67, tying for the lowest round in NCAA Division II this season en route to individual medalist honors.

The sophomore from Encinitas is ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II GolfStat rankings, boating an adjusting scoring average of 73.31.

Teammate Claire Hogle picked up CCAA Freshman of the Year honors, after a productive first collegiate season. Hogle averaged 77.4 strokes per round and put together four Top 10 performances in 2017-18. The San Diego native finished in second individually at the CCAA Championships, trailing Jacob by six strokes.

In her first year at Cal State East Bay, Carolin Chang was selected as the CCAA Newcomer of the Year. Hailing from Tainan, Taiwan, Chang led the Pioneers all season, with six Top 10 tournament finishes including a tie for third at the CCAA Championships. A junior, Chang came to the Pioneers from Santa Barbara City College. She currently rates 25th in the GolfStat individual rankings, with a 75.34 adjusted scoring average.

Along with the individual award winners, a 10-member All-CCAA first team has been voted upon by the coaches. Alongside Jacob and Hogle, the Cal State San Marcos trio of Bergen Benedict, Sarah Garcia and Savannah Magallon were named to the team as the Cougars comprise half of the first team honorees.

Chang represents Cal State East Bay, and the pair of Samantha Oliva and Sabrina Virtusio from championship runners-up Sonoma State earned a place on the squad. Rounding out the 10 is the duo of Blake Haverty and Linnea Karlsson of Cal State Monterey Bay.

In his fourth season at the helm of the Cougars and eighth overall at Cal State San Marcos, Greg Hutton was voted as the Coach of the Year. The team is currently sitting in second in the West Region rankings, and seventh in the GolfStat national rankings, eyeing a bid into the NCAA West Super Regional set for May 7-9 in Durango, Colo. Hutton also leads the school’s men’s squad, and this marks his first CCAA Coach of the Year honors in the Cougars’ first season of NCAA Division II postseason eligibility.
