Miles, Massengale Earn CCAA Weekly Track and Field Honors

SAN RAMON, Calif. — Cal State LA’s J’Liyah Miles and Courtney Massengale of San Francisco State have earned California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Track and Field Athlete of the Week for April 9-15.
 
CCAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Cal State LA junior J’Liyah Miles repeats as back-to-back CCAA Track Athlete of the Week after improving on her NCAA Division II best time in the 100 meters. The Stockton native crossed the line in 11.56 seconds to win the sprint at the Cal State LA Twilight Open at Jesse Owens Track. The mark stands as eighth in program history.

She also ran on the winning 4x100 meter relay team for the Golden Eagles, as well as taking first in the long jump after a leap of 5.76 meters on her last attempt.

CCAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
San Francisco State junior Courtney Massengale turned in a pair of podium finishes at the Woody Wilson Classic to net CCAA weekly honors. The Yuba City native recorded a third-place finish in the discus with a provisional qualifying mark of 48.51 meters in her final throw. She trailed two competitors from Fresno State in the standings. In the javelin, Massengale finished in second with another provisional qualifier of 42.43 meters, which also stands as a personal best.
