Miles, Paulo Selected for CCAA Weekly Awards

SAN RAMON, Calif. — J’Liyah Miles turned in qualifying performances on the track and in the jumps for Cal State LA and Humboldt State’s Janelle Paulo recorded a new personal best in the shot put as the duo earned California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week for April 2-8, respectively.

Cal State LA’s J’Liyah Miles finished third in the 200 with a time of 24.10 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, not only a personal best but also a provisional qualifying mark and the third-fastest performance of the season in the nation. The junior from Stockton also improved her provisional qualifying mark in the long jump with a leap of 5.99 meters to take second in the event with the fifth-best jump in NCAA Division II. Miles also holds the current No. 1 time in the nation in the 100 meters.

CCAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Junior Janelle Paulo recorded a mark of 12.99 meters in the shot put to earn first place at Chico State’s Distance Carnival and Twilight Invitational, beating out teammate Lily Bankas for the win by .06 meters. The mark stands as a new personal best for Paulo, ranking ninth in the program record book. The Sacramento native also placed seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 42.26 m.
