Stanislaus State Pair Andrew Wheat and Joe Ryan Earn Baseball Weekly Honors

SAN RAMON, Calif. — After a weekend split with the red-hot Golden Eagles, Stanislaus State duo Andrew Wheat and Joe Ryan have been named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 19-25, respectively.
 
CCAA Baseball Player of the Week
Andrew Wheat was the top offensive player for a Stanislaus State team that scored 36 runs against Cal State LA in four games over the weekend. Wheat, a senior from Benicia, went 8-for-13 to bat .615 with a 1.077 slugging percentage against the Golden Eagles.

Friday, Wheat went 3-for-5 from the plate, with one walk, one RBI and five runs in an 18-1 offensive explosion for the Warriors. All told, he tallied two three-hig games and scored eight times in the series.

This weekend, Stanislaus State travels to Cal State San Bernardino for a four-game series. First pitch between the Coyotes and Warriors is slated for Thursday at 3 p.m.

CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Joe Ryan was dominate again as he shut down the Cal State LA bats in the series opener as the Warriors snapped the Golden Eagles’ eight-game winning streak. Ryan struck out a career-high 11 batters in just seven innings of work.
The senior from San Anselmo gave up just one run on four hits with the only mistake a solo homer. After giving up two singles in the first and getting out of the jam with two strikeouts, he retired 14 of the next 15 batters before the Ayala home run.

Ryan leads the CCAA with 66 strikeouts which ranks ninth nationally. He also sits tied atop the league leaders in wins (5) and earned run average (2.03). This is his third CCAA weekly honor of the season.

Next up for the Warriors is a four-game set at Cal State San Bernardino beginning on Thursday afternoon.
