Chico State Duo Earn CCAA Weekly Honors

SAN RAMON, Calif. — A pair of Chico State seniors led the way for the Wildcats at the Hornet Invitational, and Kyle Medina and Nolan Nagle have been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Track and Field Athletes of the Week for March 12-18 after their weekend efforts.
 
CCAA Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Kyle Medina, the senior from Ventura, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational in an NCAA Automatic A qualifying time of 8 minutes, 51.66 seconds, which also puts him second in Chico State’s all-time list for the event. Saturday’s race was Medina’s first steeplechase ran in competition.

A five-time All-American and 2017’s CCAA Track & Field Athlete of the Year, Medina led a 1-2-3 finish of Wildcats as he was followed to the line by Connor Fisher and Jack Johnson in the field of 15 entries. Fisher and Johnson both earned provisional qualifying times in the event.

CCAA Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Nolan Nagle, the senior from Santa Rosa, earned a pair of NCAA Provisional B marks over his two days at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational. In a field where three of the top four spots when to Stanford and Cal throwers, Nagle took fifth in the hammer with a personal-record throw of 55.17 meters. Nagle then notched a provisional mark in the shot put, with a throw of 16.31 meters in his final attempt of the event, another personal-best hurl. Nagle garnered fourth place in the shot put, behind three Cal throwers.
