Cowley, Fletcher Nab CCAA Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Mar 20, 2018 SAN RAMON, Calif. — Drew Cowley helped Cal Poly Pomona dominate at the plate and Cal State Monterey Bay’s Colton Fletcher shut down his opponent from the mound as the pair earned California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 12-18. CCAA Baseball Player of the Week Cal Poly Pomona’s Drew Cowley helped his squad to a four-game sweep of Cal State San Bernardino where the Broncos put up 44 runs including 18 in the series finale. Cowley, a freshman shortstop from Upland, his .643 on the weeken going 9-of-14 from the plate. He tallied three extra-base hits, four RBIs and five walks, and finished the series with a .929 slugging percentage and an on base percentage of .737. Next, the Broncos travel to San Francisco State for a four-game series. The San Jose native did not allow an earned run in eight innings of work as the Otters tallied a 12-1 road victory over the Warriors. He allowed just three hits and held Stanislaus State’s batters to a .115 average. Fletcher fanned 11 batters for the second time this season, and became the first pitcher in Cal State Monterey Bay history to strike out more than 10 batters twice in a career, and both of his double-digit efforts came in under a month’s time. Next for the Otters host UC San Diego for a four-game weekend tilt slated to start Saturday at noon. Currently the two teams are separated by one game in the CCAA standings, with Cal State Monterey Bay entering the weekend at 11-5 in league action with the Tritons at 10-6.
