Rodriguez, VandenBoom Named CCAA Track and Field Athletes of the Week

SAN RAMON, Calif. — Cal State San Marcos distance runner Natalie Rodriguez and Humboldt State sprinter and jumper Brailee Vandenboom have been named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Track and Field Athletes of the Week for March 5-11.
 
CCAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Natalie Rodriguez, a senior from Santa Clarita, ran a personal-best time of 16:34.24 in the 5,000 meters at the Oxy Distance Carnival en route to an NCAA automatic qualifying mark and a CCAA weekly award.

The time was good for second out of 171 entrants, and Rodriguez was first among collegiate runners in the field, more than five seconds ahead of the next collegian to cross the line, Emeline Delanis of Cal Baptist.

CCAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Brailee VandenBoom of Humboldt State turned in a solid weekend at the Chico Wildcat Invitational, sprinting and jumping to solid results for the Jacks.

The freshman from Eatonville, Wash. finished second in the 100 meter dash, clocking in at 12.50 seconds. She also took third in the 200 with a time of 25.73. Her high jump performance earned her first place and an NCAA provisional mark after clearing 5’ 7.75”. Both her high jump and 100 meter dash results rank in the Humboldt State all-time top 10 at third and eighth, respectively.
