Mikayla Williams Earns Player of the Week as Tritons Clinch No. 1 Seed

SAN RAMON, Calif. — Redshirt sophomore Mikayla Williams helped propel UC San Diego to a pair of victories and the regular season title en route to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week for Feb. 5-11.

Williams averaged a double-double of 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds on 50 percent shooting from the floor in victories over Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.

The Meath Park, Canada,  native scored 16 points with 10 rebounds to lead UC San Diego to a home win over the second-place Broncos on Friday, and followed it up with a 15-point, 12-rebound performance in a road victory over the Coyotes, her 10th double-double of the year. Overall, Williams has scored at least 10 points in 12-consecutive games for the Tritons.

Despite having the No. 1 seed sewn up, UC San Diego still has four regular season contests to play. This week, the Tritons travel to Chico State on Thursday and on Saturday, with both games scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
