Uzowuru's Banner Outing Leads to CCAA Weekly Honors
Leading the charge in a banner week for Cal State LA, senior Chidera Uzowuru has been selected as the CCAA Player of the Week for Dec. 17-19.
Uzowuru continued her outstanding play with two more 20-plus point games to lead the Golden Eagles to a first-ever win over Seattle Pacific on Monday and a CCAA win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Wednesday. All told, she averaged 25.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.5 steals in the two victorious efforts en route to her first career conference weekly recognition.
The Inglewood native started the week with 23 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one block and five steals in a 68-54 win over Seattle Pacific on Monday. Cal State LA had been 0-8 all-time against Seattle Pacific heading into the non-conference matchup.
Then, Uzowuru posted a career-high 27 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals in a 75-65 win over The Toros to help Cal State LA head into the break on a three-game winning streak. With her fourth consecutive 20-point outing, she became the first Golden Eagle since Tessondra Williams in 2012-13 to score more than 20 points in four straight games.
The Golden Eagles return to the court after the winter break, hosting Cal State San Marcos on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m.
