Tyra Turner Takes Home CCAA Player of the Week
Humboldt State’s Tyra Turner propelled the Jacks to a perfect weekend on the court en route to CCAA Player of the Week for Dec. 3-9.
The junior from San Bernardino averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 steals and 3.0 rebounds as she guided Humboldt State to a pair of home victories to bring their string to three straight CCAA wins. In Thursday’s 30-point win over Cal State Monterey Bay, the point guard connected on 70 percent of her shots (7-for-10) and scored 16 points to go with a season-high six steals against the Otters.
Turner finished the weekend with 15 points, four steals and five assists in a come-from-behind effort versus Stanislaus State. She swished six free throws in the final minute of action to ice the 67-61 win.Turner leads the CCAA with 16 steals in conference play, ranking third in the league on the season.
Humboldt State has one more contest before the winter break, hosting Chico State Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Lumberjacks will return to the court on Dec. 29 at UC San Diego.
