TURLOCK, Calif.
– As the CCAA’s top eight teams converge on Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena on the campus of Stanislaus State, the CCAA All-Conference Volleyball Team and individual awards have been announced, prior to the quarterfinal round of the championship bracket.

In what should be no surprise, the No. 1 team in the nation, Cal State San Bernardino, is heavily represented in the awards, as voted on by the league’s 13 coaches.

Sophomore outside hitter for the Coyotes Alexis Cardoza headlines the winners, nabbing CCAA Player of the Year and marking back-to-back winners from Cal State San Bernardino. Cardoza is dominating the league in multiple offensive categories, and her 5.24 points per set average is good for fifth nationally. To date, she has amassed a league-best 387 kills on the season to help lead the potent Coyote attack.

Cardoza is joined on the All-CCAA first team by the effective duo of senior Hailey Jackson and junior Sascha Dominique. Dominique and Jackson serve as a 2-3 punch for the Coyotes, literally. The pair are ranked second and third in the country in hitting percentage and stand as the only two women in the conference to be hitting over .400. Dominique’s tally of .426 is good for second in the NCAA and first in the CCAA, and Jackson’s mark of .413 is third nationally.

Senior setter Jayann DeHoog skillfully directs the offense for Cal State San Bernardino and has been named Setter of the Year for her efforts. DeHoog has assisted on 1,015 attacks in 2018, and her 12.08 assists per set is sixth in the NCAA Division II rankings. She rounds out the four first-team honorees for the Coyotes.

Newcomer of the Year honors go to Cal State LA’s Mickayla Sherman, a junior outside hitter for the 15th-ranked Golden Eagles. Sherman is the second straight player for Cal State LA to receive the award, following Daisia LaBrie. Sherman received All-CCAA second-team honors with last season’s Freshman of the Year Karla Santos, and Golden Eagle setter Kelsey Molnar tapped for the all-conference first team.

A trio of women from Cal Poly Pomona round out the major award winners, as senior Alex Bollier collected Libero of the Year and second-team accolades. Her 442 digs (5.26 per set) leads the conference as she anchors the defense for the No. 17 Broncos. Freshman of the Year goes to setter Kira Zimmerman, second behind only DeHoog in assists per set in her first year wearing Green and Gold.

Zimmerman is joined as a first-team all-conference selection by seniors Andrea Bosnic and Kristen Hamlin. The upperclassmen account for a combined 8.18 points per set for Cal Poly Pomona.

In her final season at the helm of the Broncos, head coach Rosie Wegrich has been voted by her peers as Coach of the Year. An AVCA Hall of Famer for a coaching career that has spanned four decades at both Division I and II, his is her second CCAA Coach of the Year award in her 27 seasons at Cal Poly Pomona.

Nine of the 12 first-team all-conference picks come from the three nationally ranked teams from the south. Joining them are three individuals from the north, who will also see action in the 2018 CCAA Championship: Sierra Adams from host institution Stanislaus State, Cal State Monterey Bay’s senior setter Erica Chapa, and senior Lindsey Ray from No. 1 seed from the North Cal State East Bay.
