SAN RAMON, Calif. – Racing to a new personal best and helping Chico State to a dominant victory, Wildcat senior Eddie King has been selected as the CCAA Runner of the Week for Sept. 24-30.

King, a native of Morgan Hill, completed the eight-kilometer course at the Capital Cross Challenge at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in 24:16.6 as the Wildcats outran the 26-team field that included a dozen Division I teams. The Wildcats finished with 42 points to runner-up Pepperdine’s 105. Their closest Division II competitor, Cal Poly Pomona, finished fifth with 162 points. King finished 10 seconds behind Loyola Marymount's Koby Pederson in the race for the top finish among collegians as the Wildcat finished in fourth in the individual standings.

A CCAA champion and All-American in the 5,000-meter distance this spring, King’s Saturday time on the cross country course bested his own previous benchmark by more than 19 seconds in the speedy season debut. This marks King’s first career CCAA weekly cross country award.

Next up on Chico State’s docket is the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Oct. 13.
