Chico State’s Haley Kroll Receives 2017 CCAA Impact Award
SAN RAMON – Chico State women’s cross country and women’s track and field student-athlete Haley Kroll was tabbed the 2017 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Impact Award recipient, it was announced Tuesday night at the Conference’s annual Hall of Fame event.
The Impact Award recognizes a single CCAA student-athlete who has exemplified leadership through participation in community service and engagement activities while maintaining dedication to academics and athletics. Selections are made by the Conference’s 13-member institutions’ athletics staff and the their respective Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Serving as a member of the Chico State SAAC for four years and as the Wildcats’ Co-President for last two years, Kroll has organized and coordinated various community service activities, highlighted by the “We Don’t Say” campaign that emphasizes the importance of the language the people use. Kroll proposed the idea in the Spring of 2015 and since then the campaigne has received overwhelming attention on campus, on social media, and through various national media outlets.

In addition, Kroll formed teams to participate in the walks for Alzheimer’s and Autism, while also assisting in various canned food drives for the on-campus food pantry and purchasing a bullet-proof vest for Ray, a K9 with the County Sheriff’s office. She also helped the Wildcats grant two wishes over the past two years, most recently raising and donating $5,000 to help grant a wish for the four-year old daughter of a former Chico State softball player.
Along with her teammates, Kroll visited a local elementary school as part of the athletic department’s partnership with the local recreation district after school program. The kinesiology major also taught various physical education classes at local elementary schools, volunteered at local running races and track meets and served as a fitness facilitator for the on-campus BEWEL program, which encourages healthy and active lifestyles.
Criteria student-athletes must meet in order to be eligible for the Impact award are:
• Shall be a current student-athlete at a member institution
• Shall be academically and athletically eligible and in good academic standing according to NCAA, CCAA, and institutional regulations
• Shall have used a season of competition for the year the student-athlete is being nominated
• Participates in community service/engagement activities as a member of their team
• Participates in community service/engagement activities outside of team activities
• Participates in, or demonstrates activities that exemplify leadership
