The 2017 CCAA Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships will be hosted at University Stadium on the campus of Chico State from May 4-6. Competition begins Thursday with a number of events in the Decathlon and Heptathlon. Friday will consist of mostly preliminary races and field events and will lead into Saturday’s Championships finals.

Championship History
Cal State LA tops the record books for the men, holding 11 all-time records including the 100-meters, 200-meters, 110 Hurdles, 400 Hurdles, 3000 Steeplechase, High Jump, Long Jump, Josh Cosmo, Shot Put, Discus, and the Javelin. The record holders:

In the women’s record books CCAA Hall of Famer Nicole Duncan highlights Cal State LA’s Conference-leading four record-holders. Duncan has held the record for the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.59 since 2001. Former CCAA member Cal Poly-SLO is the only program to have more CCAA record holders with a total of five. Last season Stanislaus State's Krystal Alnas and Channing Wilson earned a spot on the elite list, breaking the previous Conference records in hammer throw and javelin, respectively.

Returning Champions
There are a total of 14 athletes (4 men, 10 women) that will be looking to defend last year’s event titles. Highlighting the women is Humboldt State's Alyssabeth Dejerez, who is the two-time defending champion in the 400-meters and 400-meter hurdles as well as the Lumberjacks' Ariel Oliver, who won the Shot put and Discus last season. On the men’s side Stanislaus State’s Gary Randolph will attempt to win both the Shot Put and Hammer for the third-consecutive year.

CCAA Qualifies for NCAA
So far this season four men’s track and field athletes and nine women’s track and field athletes, including one relay team have automatically qualified for the upcoming NCAA Championships. On the women’s side Humboldt State's Alyssabeth Dejerez, Chico State's Alex Burkhart, Humboldt State's Marissa McCay, UC San Diego's Christina Carr, Chico State's Brooke Whitburn, and the San Francisco State 4x100 meter relay team have already punched their ticket to Bradenton, Fla. All four automatic qualifiers come from Chico State, including Kyle Medina, Phill Bailey, Jason Dunn and Aaron Martin. Medina has qualified for the national meet in both the 1,500-meters and the 5,000-meters. Bailey, Dunn, and Martin have all recorded automatic marks in the Decathlon.

Team History
Chico State’s returned to the top of the team standings, earning the program's 12th title in 13 years. 11-year streak. The Wildcats finished with 246 points, while UC San Diego was second with 190 points and Stanislaus State was third with 144 points. On the women’s side, the Wildcats have won seven straight; they scored 190 points last season to finish comfortably ahead of second-place UC San Diego (137.66). Prior to Chico’s five-straight victories, the Tritons were the Conference’s top squad for five consecutive years (2005-09). Cal State LA joins Chico State as the only other women’s program to win at least five CCAA Track and Field team titles.
