SSU's Haydon Turpin and UCSD's Tyler Durna Tabbed CCAA Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week

SAN RAMON – Sonoma State senior Haydon Turpin and UC San Diego sophomore Tyler Durna were named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, for the week of Mar. 20-26.


CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

A right-hander from Ceres, Turpin shut down No. 5 ranked UC San Diego on Saturday night to lift the Seawolves to an upset 5-1 victory in the series opener at Triton Ballpark.

The Seawolf ace went 6.2 innings, giving up just six hits and one unearned run, while striking out seven Triton hitters.

CCAA Baseball Player of the Week

Durna led the fifth-ranked Tritons to a come-from-behind, 2-1 series victory at home against Sonoma State last weekend.

The Chino Hills product hit .545 (6-for-11) with a slugging percentage of 1.273 and on-base percentage of .615. He totaled six runs, five RBI, two doubles, two home runs and two walks. 

Durna recorded multiple hits in all three contests. In Sunday's nightcap he was outstanding, going two-for-three at the plate with four runs, four RBI, two homers, and a walk.

Defensively, the first baseman made 27 clean putouts without an error.
