SAN RAMON – Chico State senior Phill Bailey and Cal State San Marcos senior Ryan Maize were selected the California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of Mar. 6-12. 


CCAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week

Maize won the 3000-meter steeplechase at last weekend's Oxy Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic. 

The Lakeside product's mark time of 9:04.66, was just 3.28 seconds shy of breaking his own CSUSM record and currently qualifies him for the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships.

CCAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week

A Yucaipa native, Bailey posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark en route to a first place finish in the long jump at Saturday's Chico State-hosted Wildcats Invitational.

Bailey's first leap of 24 feet, 02.5 was not only a personal best, but was the sixth-best mark in program history. Bailey now holds the CCAA's top long jump mark and ranks second among all Division II jumpers.
