Cal State East Bay's Alex Vesia and Cal State LA's Sean Watkins Named CCAA Pitcher and Player of the Week

SAN RAMON – Cal State East Bay's Alex Vesia and Cal State LA's Sean Watkins were named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Baeballl Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, for the week of Feb. 20-26.

CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Vesia, a left-hander from Alpine turned in an outstanding performance last weekend, shutting down a potent Cal State Monterey Bay lineup to a earn a 4-0 road victory over the Otters in Friday's series opener.

Vesia allowed just three hits and three walks, while striking out eight in seven innings of work.

CCAA Baseball Player of the Week

Watkins had a tremendous series against Cal Staet San Bernardino as he helped the Golden Eagles split the two squads' four-game series.

The utility player hit .636 and compiled a 1.545 slugging percentage, hitting seven-for-11 at the plate with two home runs, two doubles, a triple, and six RBI. Also with a .778 on-base percentage, Watkins reached base 14 times after walking three times and being hit by a pitch four times.

In addition, Watkins also pitched an inning of scoreless relief in the Saturday's opening victory. He faced six batters, allowing two hits, one walk, and striking out one Coyote hitter.
