CSUSM's Ethan Alvano and CSULA's Samantha Lee Named CCAA Basketball Players of the Week

SAN RAMON – Cal State San Marcos junior guard Ethan Alvano and Cal State LA senior guard Samantha Lee earned the California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's and Women's Basketball Player of the Week, respectively, for the week of Feb. 6-12.


Men's Basketball Player of the Week

CCAA scoring leader, Alvano averaged 18 points, 10.5 assists, 4 rebounds, and three assists in the Cougars' road wins at Stanislaus State and Chico State. 

Thursday night Alvano compiled 15 points, 14 assists, five steals, and three rebounds to lead CSUSM to a convincing 94-76 win over the Warriors.

Then in Saturday's 59-58 victory over the Wildcats, the Corona native amassed 21 points, including the eventual game-winnning three-pointer with just 2.1 second left in regulation. He also dished out seven assists and pulled down five rebounds on the night.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Lee had two oustanding performances to lead Cal State LA to upset wins over Conference contender Cal State San Bernardino and CCAA standings leader, UC San Diego.

The Monterey Park product led the week off with a career-high scoring night, totaling 23 points. Lee was seven-of-11 from the field, including six-of-nine from thee-point range. She also totaled four assists and a steal in the 71-53 win over the Coyotes.

Lee put forth another stellar performance in Saturday's 75-69 victory against the Tritons, scoring a team-best 22 points, while adding two more assists to her weekend totals. 

Overall, Lee shot 52 percent from the field on 12-of-23 shooting. She was 11-of-20 from beyond the arc and was 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Her averages included 22.5 points, three assists, and 2.5 rebounds.
