SAN DIEGO – The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Conference Women’s Soccer Team and major award winners have been announced, in advance of the Semifinal Round of the 2017 CCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.

Cal State LA freshman phenom Paulina Chaidez is taking home both Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year hardware. Hailing from Tijuana, Mexico, Chaidez burst onto the college soccer scene with league-bests of 10 goals (0.63 goals per game) and 1.25 points per game. Five of her strikes for scores have been game-winners for the Golden Eagles in her first year of collegiate play.

After running through the year with a 10-0-1 mark in CCAA play, the regular season champion UC San Diego Tritons comprise the rest of the major award winners. Defensive Player of the Year accolades go to redshirt sophomore Natalie Saddic, and Tritons goalkeeper Angelica Ramos earned Newcomer of the Year. Saddic and Ramos anchored the Tritons backfield that held 11 opponents scoreless, and allowed just nine goals on the year.

Repeating as Coach of the Year is San Diego’s Brian McManus. Now in his 31st year at the helm of the Tritons, McManus’ squads have compiled an impressive 497-90-53 record during his career. This is his seventh honor by his fellow league coaches, also winning the award in 2000, ’01, ’03, ’06, ’11 and ’16.

Eight schools across the league are represented on the All-CCAA first and second teams. Joining Chaidez and Saddic as first team selections are the 2016 Offensive Player of the Year Katie O’Laughlin, of UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino’s Rachael Figg, last season’s Newcomer of the Year. Daisy Duran (Cal Poly Pomona), Pooja Patel (Chico State), Riley West (Sonoma State) and Christina Holguin (San Francisco State) each make their first appearance on the All-Conference top team. Tritons Aimee Ellis, Jordyn McNutt and Mary Reilly round out the league’s top squad for 2017 with McNutt and Reilly repeating as first team selections.

All five individual awards as well as the All-CCAA selections were solely voted on by the CCAA’s 13 head coaches.
