SAN DIEGO – The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Conference Men’s Soccer Team and major award winners have been announced, in advance of the Semifinal Round of the 2017 CCAA Men’s Soccer Championship.

The award winners were headlined by this season’s Offensive Player of the Year from Cal Poly Pomona, Sergi Monso. The senior from Barcelona, Spain, has booted in 17 goals on the year while adding seven assists. His 2.56 points per game not only leads the CCAA, but is ranked third in NCAA Division II. Monso helped propel the Broncos offense with eight game-winning goals, tied for tops in the nation. He is also making a repeat appearance on the All-CCAA First Team.

Three Chico State men took home the other three individual player awards. Damion Lewis, a junior goalkpeeper from Miami, Fla., was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Year. The Wildcats keeper notched eight shutouts on the season, and compiled 68 saves.

Two newcomers to the pitch in Chico were also honored. Freshman of the Year Eruvey Arceta, a midfielder from Oakley, served up seven assists to Wildcat goal scorers and added three scores of his own. Jeremiah Egujie, a forward from Benin, Nigeria, who joined the team after two seasons at Arizona Western, supplied a team-high 10 goals with three game-winners for the Chico State offense.

The Coach of the Year award goes to San Francisco State’s Javier Ayala-Hil, in his second season at the helm of the Gators program. Ayala-Hil helped direct the squad to a No. 6 seed in the CCAA tournament field, the first postseason appearance for San Francisco State men’s soccer since 1978.

Nine league teams are represented on the All-CCAA first and second teams. Joining Monso, Lewis and Egujie on the first team, is the Cal State Dominguez Hills duo of Carlos Escobedo and Leonardo Nogueira, and a pair of players from San Francisco State in Ranier Plantinos and Aydan Bowers. Cal State LA is represented by midfielder Steven Eberle who moved up from last year’s second team selection. A conference-best four players from Cal Poly Pomona were honored as first teamers; Monso, Nadeer Ghantous, Luis Najera Jr., and Jimmie Villalobos.

All five individual awards as well as the All-CCAA selections were solely voted on by the CCAA’s 13 head coaches.
