SAN FRANCISCO – The California Collegiate Athletic Assocation (CCAA) All-Conference Volleyball team and major award winners have been announced on the eve of the quarterfinal matches in the 2017 CCAA Volleyball Championship.

This season’s Player of the Year honors belong to Cal State San Bernardino senior Lauren Nicholson. A back-to-back All-CCAA first team performer, Nicholson has become a leading force for the South’s No. 1 seed Coyotes. Ranked No. 17 nationally in kills per set (4.23), the Upland native also leads the league in total kills (402) and points per set (4.51) while hitting .280 on the season.

Sonoma State’s Courtney Seda garnerered Setter of the Year for the Seawolves. Hailing from Santa Rosa, Seda helped guide her team to the No. 1 seed in the North, assisting on a conference-best 1,125 plays. Her 11.25 sets per match average stands in 19 in NCAA Division II. The senior helps anchor an offense that leads the CCAA in both assists per set and kills per set.

Seda’s teammate Megan Bohorquez joins her in the major awards listings as the Libero of the Year. The sophomore from Fairfield averages 4.75 digs per set and has served up 27 aces for the Seawolves on the season, who enter the postseason with an overall mark of 20-7, and a 14-4 record in conference action.

With multiple fresh faces on the Cal State LA bench, Daisia LaBrie and Karla Santos take home Newcomer and Freshman of the Year accolades. The duo combined to lead the Golden Eagles with 580 kills, accounting for more than 46 percent of the squad’s offensive output. Santos, a native of Manati, Puerto Rico, tallied 339 kills and a team-high 29 aces. Riverside native LaBrie, led the team in blocks (62) while adding 251 kills on .306 hitting to help the team to the No. 4 seed in the South.

Andrea Leonard, the program’s first and only head coach at Cal State San Marcos, earned her first nod as CCAA Coach of the Year. After leading the squad to a 14-11 record and the second seed in the South, Leonard is in her seventh season at the helm of the Cougars.

A total of 10 league teams are represented on the All-CCAA first and second teams. Along with Nicholson, Chico State’s Olivia Mediano is making a repeat appearance on the first team, and second team selections from 2016, Maddy Newcombe (Cal State San Marcos), Seda, and Deja Thompson (Cal State East Bay) jumped up to the first team. Cal State Monterey Bay’s Maddy Underwood, Amanda Colla of UC San Diego, Sonoma State’s Kelsey McIntire and Hailey Jackson of Cal State San Bernardino, join Bohorquez, LaBrie, Nicholson, Santos and Seda as first team selections.

Sonoma State leads the tally on the first team with three honorees, and Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State LA each notched a pair on the top squad. All six individual awards as well as the All-CCAA selections were solely voted on by the CCAA’s 13 head coaches.
