SAN RAMON, Calif. - Cal State East Bay newcomer Savannah McGill opened the season with an impressive weekend to earn her first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week nod, for Nov. 6-12.

McGill, a junior from Lacey, Wash., helped the back-to-back CCAA tournament champion Pioneers to a pair of victories, averaging 15.5 points and 16.5 rebounds on 70 percent shooting in wins over Bay Area foes Holy Names and Academy of Art. She was the squad’s leading scorer against the Hawks with 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field.

The following afternoon, McGill notched her first double-double in a Cal State East Bay uniform with 10 points and 25 rebounds. Her impressive rebounding mark fell just two shy of matching a school record that has been on the books for 32 years. The transfer from South Puget Sound Community College is the all-time leading rebounder in the Northwest Athletic Conference.

McGill and the Pioneers are back in action tonight as the team takes on Point Loma in non-conference play. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip from San Diego.

Also nominated:
Whitney Branham, Chico State
Madison Burroughs, Sonoma State
