Field Set for 2017 CCAA Men's Soccer Championship
SAN RAMON, Calif. – The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular-season slate was completed on Saturday afternoon, and six squads have earned a berth in the 2017 CCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament.
After a final day where every seed was up for grabs, Cal State Dominguez Hills (12-4-2, 9-2-1 CCAA) clinched the regular season title after powering to a 3-0 victory over Stanislaus State on Saturday. With 28 total points on the season, and a 2.33 points per match average, the Toros climbed to the top of the table after earning points in seven of the last eight matches.
The second seed belongs to Cal Poly Pomona (13-4, 9-3 CCAA). Despite a loss to Cal State San Bernardino in their regular season finale, the Broncos closed the season averaging 2.25 points per match. Before Friday night’s defeat at the hands of the Coyotes, Cal Poly Pomona was riding a six-match winning streak and is sitting at No. 23 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.
The Nos. 1 and 2 seeds earn a bye into the semifinal rounds of action, which will be contested at UC San Diego’s Triton Stadium on Friday, Nov. 3.
There will be two first round play-in contests held at the respective campuses of the Nos. 3 and 4 seeds. No. 6 San Francisco State (11-4-2, 6-4-2 CCAA) travels to No. 3 UC San Diego (10-1-5, 7-1-3 CCAA) for a 7 p.m. kick on Tuesday, Oct. 31. During the regular season, the two played to a 1-1 double-overtime stalemate on Oct. 6, setting up an intriguing first-round matchup. The Tritons are currently ranked 18th in NCAA Division II.
No. 5 Cal State LA (12-4-2, 6-4-2 CCAA) meets up with No. 4 Chico State (10-5-2, 8-2-2 CCAA) in a repeat of the regular season finale. The Golden Eagles came away with the 1-0 victory in Los Angeles on Saturday, and now the Wildcats will play the Halloween host.
The first-round victors will joining the Toros and Broncos in La Jolla for Friday’s semifinal matches with the championship match scheduled for Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
