2017 CCAA Women's Soccer Championship Bracket Set
SAN RAMON, Calif. – The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular-season slate was completed on Saturday afternoon, and six squads have advanced to play in the 2017 CCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.
UC San Diego (13-2-2, 10-0-1 CCAA) is the repeat regular season champion after rolling through conference play with a nearly perfect mark. The lone blemish in conference play for the seventh-ranked Titans was a 1-1 tie in the penultimate game of the regular season at Cal State East Bay.
The No. 2 seed in the brackets belongs to Cal State LA (9-4-3, 7-3-2 CCAA), who carries at 1.917 points per match average into the postseason. The Golden Eagles edged out the No. 3 seeded Sonoma State Seawolves (12-3-1, 6-3-1 CCAA) by less than two-hundredths of a point.
The Nos. 1 and 2 seeds earn a bye into the semifinal rounds of action, which will be contested at UC San Diego’s Triton Stadium on Friday, Nov. 3.
There will be two first round play-in contests held at the respective campuses of the Nos. 3 and 4 seeds. No. 6 Cal Poly Pomona (10-5-2, 6-4-2 CCAA) travels to No. 3 Sonoma State for a 1 p.m. kick on Tuesday, Oct. 31. During the regular season, the Broncos earned the 1-0 double-overtime victory in Pomona on Oct. 8. Sonoma State is ranked No. 19 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.
After surviving a double-overtime thriller in its final regular season game, Cal State San Marcos (8-6-2, 6-4-1 CCAA) will see its first women’s soccer postseason action as the No. 5 seed in the brackets. The Cougars will travel to No. 4 Chico State (11-5-1, 7-4-1 CCAA) for the Halloween game that will be part of a men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader for the Wildcats. Cal State San Marcos earned the 2-1 home victory during the first weekend of CCAA play on Sept. 17.
The first-round victors will joining the Golden Eagles and Tritons in La Jolla for Friday’s semifinal matches with the championship match scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.
