Wildcats' Robert Duncan and Warriors' Cassidy Sanders-Curry Tabbed CCAA Basketball Players of the Week

SAN RAMON – Chico State senior guard Robert Duncan and Stanislaus State senior forward Cassidy Sanders-Curry were named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Dec. 25-Jan. 1.


Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Duncan led the Wildcats to a pair of blowout victories against Cal State Monterey Bay (88-59) and previously undefeated and 15th-ranked San Francisco State (75-61).

The Granite Bay product averaged 15 points, 6.5 rebounds, four assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

Thursday against the Otters Duncan scored his first 15 points on seven-for-10 shooting from the field, while also dishing out a game-high seven assists. Then on Saturday afternoon he scored another 15 points and pulled down a weekend-best nine rebounds. 

The Wildcats have now moved into second in the CCAA standings with an improve

Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Sanders-Curry had two 20-plus point performances in the Warriors 1-1 road weekend, which included a 66-56 win at Cal State San Bernardino and a narrow, 63-69, loss at CCAA standings leader UC San Diego.

In Thursday's game against the Coyotes Sanders-Curry shot 67 percent (six-for-nine), including a four-for-five effort from beyond the three point line, and was seven-for-10 from the free throw line for a total of 23 points. She also totaled seven rebounds and three assists.

The following night the San Jose product scored a season-high 24 points with the help of four more made three pointers and an eight-for-nine effort from the charity stripe, and pulle down a weekend-best 10 rebounds.

On the weekend, Sanders-Curry averaged 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and two assists.
