Coyotes' Mya Johnson and Wildcats' Jalen McFarren Snag CCAA Player of the Week Honors

SAN RAMON – Cal State San Bernardino senior forward Mya Johnson and Chico State junior point guard Jalen McFerren were named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women and Men's Basketball Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 9-15.


Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Johnson had two 20-point, 10-rebound performances to lead the Coyotes to road victories at Sonoma State (65-52) and San Francisco State (56-52). 

Friday night, against the Seawolves, Johnson scored 26 points on 11-for-20 shooting and knocked down 13 rebounds. The following night, she went for 22 points and 12 rebounds. 

On the weekend, she averaged 24 points and 12.5 rebounds in just 56 total minutes of play.

Men's Basketball Player of the Week

McFerren averaged 21.5 points, eight rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals to led the Wildcats to wins over Cal State LA (89-82) and Cal State Dominguz Hills (77-70). With the wins, Chico State is now riding a nine game win streak and have moved within a half game of first place in the CCAA standings.

On the weekend, the Oakland product was unstoppable, shooting 64 percent (14-for-22) from the field, 46 percent (6-for-13) from three-point range, and hit nine-of-10 attempts from the free throw line.

Friday against the Golden Eagles McFerren finished with a career-best 23 points, six rebounds, five assists, while also matching his career best with four steals. Against the Toros he had 20 points, 10 rebounds and two assists.
