SAN RAMON – UC San Diego was awarded its sixth Robert J. Hiegert Commissioner's Cup Trophy, adn first since 2010, Wednesday night at the Conference's third-annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which took place at the Fountaingrove Inn in Santa Rosa.

The award, named in honor of former Commissioner and CCAA Hall of Famer, Robert J. Hiegert, is given to the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) member institution with the highest aggregate ranking in eight of the CCAA's 12 championship sport offerings.

UCSD collected a Conference-low 19 points after taking home a CCAA Championship banner in women's basketball and four top-two finishes in women's cross country, men's basketball, women's track and field, and men's track and field. The Tritons also claimed postseason tournament victories in women's soccer and softball.

Also contributing to the Tritons victory was women's volleyball, which finished third in the regular-season standings.

Chico State, which before last year had snagged the honor for four-straight years, finished just behind the Tritons. The Wildcats compiled 20.5 points for the 2015-16 season after their men's cross country, women's cross country, men's basketball, men's track and field and women's track and field and baseball teams captured CCAA Championships. Contributing with second place performances were Chico State's women's soccer and softball teams.

The 2015 Commissioner's Cup recipient Cal Poly Pomona was third after scoring 27.5 points and were followed by Stanislaus State (37), Sonoma State (37.5), Humboldt State (38 pts.), Cal State East Bay (49.5), San Francisco State (49.5), Cal State San Bernardino (50), Cal State LA (51), Cal State Monterey Bay (54.5), Cal State Dominguez Hills (62), Cal State San Marcos (69).

An institution's Hiegert Cup ranking is calculated using its top two Conference finishes in the fall, winter, and spring sports seasons, as well as the highest two other finishes, regardless of season. An institution's numerical finish for team sports is determined by regular-season standings. Individual sports finishes are determined by the finishes at the season-ending championship event.

Team sports are soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball. Individual sports are cross country, men's golf, and track and field. Insitution's winning the Conference tournament in the sports of men's soccer, women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, and softball deduct one point from their regular-season finish in those respective sports.
