Toros' Lindsey Armstrong Named CCAA's Inaugural Impact Award Winner
SAN RAMON – Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer student-athlete Lindsey Armstrong has been named the first-ever California Collegiate Athletic Association Impact Award recipient, it was announced earlier this month at the Conference's annual council meetings in Santa Rosa.
The Impact Award the recognizes a single CCAA student-athlete who has exemplified leadership through participation in community service and engagement activities while maintaining dedication to academics and athletics and is selected by the Conference's 13 member institutions' athletics staff and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
In her role as the Toros' Student Athlete Advisory Committee vice president and one of two women's soccer captains, Armstrong organized and coordinated various community service activities for the women's soccer team, including, but not limited to, a Manhattan Beach clean-up, preparation for Long Beach's Meal on Wheels program, a Red Cross Blood Drive at the St. Francis Medical Center and the collection of donations for the local Goodwill center.
As a health science major and the co-Vice President of the CSUDH Health Science Student Alliance (HSSA) she also volunteered her time to a number of health-related activities. She worked in in the emergency department and the ICU at St. Francis Medical Center, where she assisted nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals. Armstrong also shadowed nurses and medical staff and assisted with patient care at Cedars Sinai Hospital of Los Angeles.
She also used her educational background to assist with an international research team, which was investigating the associations between social network service usage and the psychological/social health indicators among youth in Southern California and Turin, Italy.
Criteria student-athletes must meet in order to be eligible for the Impact award are:
• Shall be a current student-athlete at a member institution
• Shall be academically and athletically eligible and in good academic standing according to NCAA, CCAA, and institutional regulations
• Shall have used a season of competition for the year the student-athlete is being nominated
• Participates in community service/engagement activities as a member of their team
• Participates in community service/engagement activities outside of team activities
• Participates in, or demonstrates activities that exemplify leadership
