Chico State Tsang and Humboldt State's Oliver Named CCAA Track & Field Athletes of the Week

San Ramon – Chico State's Wade Tsang and Humboldt State's Ariel Oliver were named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of Apr. 18-24.


Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week

Wildcat thrower, Tsang took a huge step toward advancing to the NCAA Track and Field Championships with a second-place discus throw at the UC Berkeley-hosted Brutus Hamilton Open & Challenge Saturday.

The Cupertino product was the lone Division II athlete in the invite-only event, tossing an NCAA provisional mark of 51.91 meters. His mark currently ranks first in the CCAA and 11th nationally.

Tsang also won Saturday's open shot put competitions with a throw of 15.12 meters adn was the top Division II finisher in the hammer, coming in 12th with a throw 46.33 meters.

Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week

Oliver, a junior transfer from McMinnville, Ore., won both the discus and shot put finals at last weekend's Southern Oregon Raider Invite.

In the discus, Oliver improved on her 45.15 meter mark in the preliminaries with a 45.51 distanced in the final, out-throwing the second-place finisher by over 37 meters. Then in the shot put, Oliver won both the prelim (13.88m) and the final (12.94m). Both distances were NCAA provisional qualifying marks for the upcoming Division II Track and Field Championships.
