Warriors' Abraham Alvarado and Wildcats' Lora James Tabbed CCAA T&F Athletes of the Week

San Ramon – Stanislaus State's Abraham Alvarado and Chico State's Lora James were tabbed the California Collegiate Athletic Association Track and Field Athletes of the Week, for the week of Apr. 4-10.


Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week

Warriors' Alvarado regained the national lead in the 800-meter run after a career performance at the 37th Annual Suna Angel Classic at Arizona State on Saturday.

After entering the week at No. 2, Alvarado surpassed St. Augustine's Shaquille Dill for the nations top spot after running a career-best time of 1:47.23 in the event. He remains just one of three 800 runner to have automatically qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division II Championships.

Alvarado also took park in the men's 4x400-meter relay where his team won their heat and finished fifth overall with a time of 3:16.18.

Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week

A middle-distance runner from Redding, James turned a pair of outstanding performances this past weekend at the Wildcat-hosted Chico Distance Carnival and Twilight Invitational.

She took top honors in both the 800-meter run and 1,500-meter run, while also earning NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks in both races. Her personal-best time of 2:10.12 in the 800-meters is currently the fastest among all CCAA runners this season and is fifth among all Division II runners. 

Saturday, she recorded another personal-best in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:30.08, which is ranked third in the CCAA and is eighth in the nation.
