Cal Poly Pomona Sweeps CCAA Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week Awards

SAN RAMON – Cal Poly Pomona's Peter Bayer and Chris Stratton claimed the California Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball Pitcher of the Week and Player of the Week awards, respectively, for the week of Feb. 1-7.


CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Newcomer Peter Bayer took the mound in game two of the Broncos four-game series against Concordia-Irvine and turned heads as he dealt 3.2 innings of hitless ball for his first save of the season.

His showing included facing 12 batters and offering just one walk, while striking out nine.

CCAA Baseball Player of the Week

During the No. 10 Broncos opening week against Concordia-Irvine Chris Stratton made an immediate impact, reaching base safely eight times, including four hits, three walks, and one hit by pitch. 

Overall, Stratton hit .286 with a slugging percentage of .643. He hit four-for-14, which included a home run and a triple in the series opener, respectively. He also batted in seven, scored six times, and had four stolen bases throughout the four-game series.

Defensively, the infielder had 10 putouts and seven assists with just two errors.
