East Bay's Shannon Bland Named CCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week

SAN RAMON – Cal State East Bay senior Shannon Bland came up clutch in two huge victories this past weekend against CCAA standings leader Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State LA, earning her this week's California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor.

On the weekend, Bland averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 assists, 4 rebounds, and two assists.

Friday against the Toros, Bland caugh fire in the second half, scoring 11 of her 13 points on five-for-five shooting. She helped the Pioneers erase an 11-point deficit and eventually secured a dramatic victory after taking a tough 17-foot shot at the buzzer to lift East Bay to a 59-57 win, marking the pioneers first win over the Toros since December of 2013.

Saturday, Bland had another impressive performance to help East Bay escape with a dramatic 81-69 overtime win over the Golden Eagles. The guard from Ellensburg posted 22 points, going five-for-12 from the field and knocking down 12 free throws, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists. Her big moment came once again in overtime as she outscored both teams, totaling eight of the Pioneers 16 points.
