Tritons' Chris Hansen and Cougars' Ashley Jankins Snag First-Ever CCAA Player of the Week Honors

SAN RAMON – UC San Diego sophomore post player Chris Hansen and Cal State San Marcos senior guard Ashley Jenkins snagged their first-ever California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's and Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors, respectively,



Men's Basketball Player of the Week

2015 CCAA Freshman of the Year Chris Hansen averaged 22.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in UCSD's two narrow Conference victories against Cal Poly Pomona (64-62) and No. 17 ranked Chico State (60-56) last week.

Hansen led the week off with his sixth career double-double perfromance, scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. He shot 62 percent from the field on eight-for-13 shooting and was a perfect eight-for-eight from the free throw line. 

Friday against the nationally-ranked Wildcats, Hansen scored 21 points and snagged seven rebounds.

The Lafayette native's weekly totals included 45 points, 17 rebounds, three blocks, and one assist.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Jenkins was key in Cal State San Marcos' 1-1 weekend which inlcuded a narrow 69-66 loss to CCAA standings leader Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday night and a 63-61 victory against Chico State on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Jenkins kept the Cougars in the game against the Coyotes, scoring a game-high 20 points, while also totaling four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. 

Against the Wildcats, she scored 13 points with a weekend-high seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals. 

Jenkins' weekly averages were 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and four steals.
