WALNUT CREEK — For the second-consecutive year, Chico State junior Lee Gearhart has earned the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s top honor after being named the Conference’s Player of the Year Tuesday morning.

Cal State Monterey Bay had a Conference-high five players selected to the 2014-15 All-CCAA team. Cal State Stanislaus named four to this year’s team, while the Wildcats garnered three selections. Cal State East Bay and Sonoma State each had two selections.

Chico State and Cal State Monterey Bay each placed a Conference-high three players on the First Team. Fellow juniors Alistair Docherty and Justin Wiles joined Gearhart on the FirstTeam and representing the Otters were Fredrik Jullum, Anton Rosen, and Carr Vernon. Sonoma State’s Eric Ash and Brandon Lee were named from the Seawolves squad, while Cal State East Bay’s Adam Stone and Cal State Stanislaus’ Anthony Manguray rounded out the First Team honorees.

Gearhart becomes the third golfer to earn back-to-back Player of the Year honors since 1999. The Roseville product compiled a Conference-best 72.2 average en route to seven top-10 finishes on the season, which included a 36-hole victory in October at the NCAA Division II Championship Preview in Conover, N.C.

Despite falling below Gearhart in the balloting, Docherty has also had an outstanding season thus far, recording an average just one-tenth higher than his teammate. Docherty’s highlight of the season came just last week, as he claimed his first individual title of his collegiate career by edging Cal State Stanislaus’ sophomore  in a one-hole playoff at the Conference tournament.

Also claiming individual awards were Cal State Monterey Bay’s Jullum and Cal State Stanislaus’ Jahaan Nargussi, who were voted as the Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively.

Jullum, a sophomore from Norway, helped the Otters to five team victories and eight top-three finishes with his 74.0 average. Nargussi wrapped up his rookie season with a 76.3 average and three top-20 finishes, including his sixth-place finish at the Western Washington Invitational in September.

Cal State Stanislaus’ head coach John Cook led the Warriors to its second-straight team victory, earning himself his fourth-consecutive Coach of the Year nod.
