2013 Women's Soccer All-Conference Team Announced
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Cal State Stanislaus became the first CCAA team to finish the regular-season undefeated since 1998 en route to placing more players on the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Conference Teams than any other program in the Conference, it was announced Thursday evening at the 2013 CCAA Men’s and Women’s Soccer Championships in Turlock.
Cal State San Bernardino, which is making its first-ever post-season appearance, followed the Warriors closely with four selections. Cal State L.A. and Sonoma State both had three All-Conference selections.
Coyotes’ senior keeper, Chelsey Jones has been selected by the league coaches as this year’s CCAA’s Most Valuable Defensive Player of the Year; Jones led the Cal State San Bernardino defense with a Conference-leading nine shutouts and a second-best 0.67 goals against average.
Receiving the CCAA’s Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Year award for the third time in her four-year career with the Warriors and for the second time in as many years is Cal State Stanislaus’ senior forward Karenee Demery. Demery earned the top-offensive honor after hit career-bests in goals scored (21) and total points (51). Her Conference leading totals points and goals ranks first and second, respectively, among all Division II players. The Merced native also wrapped up the regular-season as the CCAA leader in shots (95), and game-winnings goals (6), while sharing the lead in assists (9)
The Freshman of the Year nod went to Cal State San Bernardino’s Kiana Quarles, while Sonoma State’s midfielder Lauren Curtin was tabbed Newcomer of the Year. Quarles earned Second team honors after a stellar rookie season that included seven goals scored, four of which were game-winners and 15 points. Curtin, a redshirt junior from Santa Rosa Junior College led the Seawolves and shared the CCAA lead with nine assists, while also contributing eight goals on the season.
Cal State Stanislaus’ head coach Gabriel Bolton has been voted by his peers as the top coach of the Conference after guiding the Warriors to a 16-0-2 overall record as well as the North Division title with a record of 14-0-2 in CCAA play. Bolton is currently the winningest coach in Warrior history with an overall record of 100-57-19 in nine years with the program.
Cal State Stanislaus and Sonoma State both placed conference-high three players on the First Team. Warriors’ Demery is joined by junior midfielder, Katelyn Nebesnick and senior defender. Representing Sonoma State is senior forward Cara Curtin, junior midfielder Lauren Curtin, and senior defender, Lauren Fryer.
Others receiving All-CCAA first team honors is Coyotes’ senior goalkeeper, Jones, UC San Diego’s junior midfielder Cassie Callahan, Cal Poly Pomona’s Kristin Mihara, and Cal State L.A.’s junior forward Amalia Arvidsson along with fellow teammate, junior midfielder Heather Williams.
