CSUEB's Jalen Richards Named CCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week
SAN RAMON – Cal State East Bay junior Jalen Richard had a monster weekend for the Pioneers, earning him California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 4-10.
Richards, a guard from San Tan Valley, Arizona led the Pioneers to a split of back-to-back road games at Cal State San Marcos and Cal State LA.
In Friday nights 81-70 loss to the Cougars Richards led all scorers with 23 points, sinking seven-of-10 shots from the field, which included hitting all four attempts from three-point range. He also finished four-for-five from the free-throw line.
The next night against the Golden Eagles, Richards was outstanding, totaling a career-high 24 points, 12 rebounds, and six steals en route to his first double-double of the season.
On the weekend, Richards averaged 23 points and eight rebounds, while shooting 52 percent from the field and 91 percent from the charity stripe.
