Chico State, ranked second nationally, dominated the field with a 1-3-5-6-8 scoring line…Chico State junior William Reyes won the event with a 24:35.2 mark, holding a solid nine-second cushion over second-place Valentin Pepiot of Academy of Art, with Wildcat teammate Falco DiGiallonardo finishing third…beyond the five scorers, Chico State runners also finished 10th, 11th, 13th, and 14th…host San Francisco State finished fifth, led by junior Benji Preciado (25:17.4, 17th) and sophomore Drew Feldman (25:17.6, 18th)…freshman Steven Terris finished 9th (personal best 25:07.6) to pace the Cougars to a fifth-place finish.

Not unexpectedly, Chico State, ranked atop the most recent west region poll, captured the win with a 1-6-7-10-17 finish…CCAA squads held down five the top seven places for the race that served as a preview of the CCAA Championships on October 25…individually, Sadie Gastelum of Chico State led the field (21:39.3; fourth-best time in the CCAA this year and her first collegiate win), edging out Cal State Monterey Bay’s Hannah Bell (21:40.4, fifth best time in the CCAA this year)…other top 10 finishes all came from Chico State runners: McCall Habermehl (22:01.2, 6th), Alex Burkhart (22:06.3, 7th), and Quetta Peinado (22:13.5, 10th)…three other runners just missed the top 10: freshman Rachel Brady of Cal State San Marcos (22:15.1, 12th), senior Gina Wood of Stanislaus State (22:18.9, 13th) and sophomore Natalie Rodriguez of Cal State San Marcos (22:20.1, 14th).

 
Triton Classic

Men (8K, 10 teams)

Host UC San Diego’s depth led to placing all of its scorers in the top 14 (5-10-12-13-14) to edge Azusa Pacific (1-4-8-27-33)…Cal Poly Pomona finished fourth, a single point behind third-place Loyola Marymount…junior Brendan Gee led the Tritons with a time of 26:54.30, good for 8th place…senior Justin Ogan of Cal Poly Pomona was 10th (27:05.32).

Cal State San Bernardino turned in a 4-6-14-16-24 finish to edge Biola for the team title…seniors Patricia Cortez (22:17.73, 4th) and Soleil Hall (22:20.21, 6th) led the Coyotes with season-best times…UC San Diego also had two runners in the top ten: senior Paige Hughes (season-best 22:26.07) and freshman Karina Carstens (22:29.93, 9th).


Stellar Season
Chico State's Will Reyes and Sadie Gastelum each earned their second CCAA Runner of the Week nod after leading the Wildcats to first-place finishes in last weekend's men's and women's meets at the San Francisco State Gator Invite-CCAA Championship Preview meet.

Reyes won the eight kilometer race by 9.1 seconds, finishing ahead of Academy of Art's Valentin Pepiot, to remain unbeaten by any Division II runner this season. 

Gastelum crossed the finish line first for Chico State for the third time this season, covering the six-kilometer course in 21 minutes, 39.3 seconds, to finish just 1.3 seconds ahead of Cal State Monterey Bay standout Hannah Bell.

Men—National Poll (10/14/2015)
Chico State remained #2 in the final regular-season poll, maintaining its two first-place votes and continues to trail first-place Grand Valley State by just five six points…Cal Poly Pomona remains 8th with 140 points…San Francisco State and UC San Diego each dropped from this week's poll.


Women—National Poll (10/14/2015)
Chico State hold on to its fifth-ranked spot…Cal Poly Pomona broke the top 25, ranking 24th in the Oct. 14 poll...UC San Diego dropped out after ranking 24th last week, but continues to receive votes...Cal State San Benrardino is also receiving votes.
