2015 All-CCAA Women's Volleyball Team Announced
SAN RAMON – Sonoma State, which repeated as the California Collegiate Athletic Association Champion, Cal State San Bernardino, and Cal Poly Pomona each placed a Conference-best four players on the 2015 All-Conference team which was announced live Wednesday night at the first-ever CCAA Championship banquet.
Three Seawolves earned individual honors — Caylie Seitz earned the Conference’s top honor as the Player of the Year, while senior defensive specialist Kaitlyn Connolly and head coach Bear Grassl were named this year’s Libero and Coach of the Year.
UC San Diego followed the Seawolves, Coyotes, and Broncos closely with three honorees, while Cal State LA, Chico State, Humboldt State, San Francisco State, and Stanislaus State each had two selections. Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay, and Cal State Monterey Bay each had one player named on the All-Conference team.
Joining Seitz and Connolly on the First team for SSU was senior outside hitter Madelyn Densberger. Fellow outside hitter Lexi Reddick received honorable mention.
The Tritons also named a CCAA-best three players to the First team — senior outside hitter Danielle Dahle, senior setter Heidi Seirks, and junior middle blocker Meagan Wright.
Cal State San Bernardino followed next with two individuals named to this year’s First team including seniors, Brenna McIntosh and Alexandra Torline, who became just the third and fourth players in the CSUSB volleyball history to earn All-Conference honors in all four years played. Rounding out the Coyotes’ four total selections were freshman setter Jayann DeHoog and junior middle blocker Malika O’Brien, both of which were named to the Second team.
Rounding out the First team was Cal State LA’s JamieAnn Bero and Iona Lofrano, Cal Poly Pomona’s Nicoletta Stork, and San Francisco State’s Jaclyn Clark.
Seitz, a four-time All-CCAA selection, earned her second Conference Player of the Year award after leading the Seawolves with averages of 3.93 kills and 4.16 points per set. Connolly wrapped up regular-season play with 4.49 digs per set and with a .964 reception percentage, she is on pace to break the program’s career reception percentage mark.
Grassl took home the Coach of the Year plaque for the fourth time in his 14-year career with the Seawolves and for the third time in as many years after guiding his team to an outstanding 19-1 record in CCAA play en route to earning the their second-consecutive regular-season Conference title. Grassl has amassed an overall record of 258-141 (.646) dating back to his first year with the Seawolves in 2002.
Also snagging individual awards were Broncos’ Hamlin, who was named the Freshman of the Year, Coyotes’ O’Brien, who was tabbed the Newcomer of the Year, and Cal Poly Pomona’s Nicoletta Stork, earning the Setter of the Year award.
Hamlin has had a stellar rookie season, averaging 2.81 kills, 0.58 blocks, and 3.2 points per set.
O’Brien led all CCAA hitters with a .424 hitting percentage, smashing 246 kills and committing just 47 errors in 469 total swings. She is also the only Conference player to rank among the top five in hitting percentage, block assists (107), total blocks (121), blocks per set (1.22), and solo blocks (14).
Stork enters post-season with five triple-doubles in which she collected at least 10 kills, assists, and digs. Her season totals include 539 assists, 260 kills, 198 digs, 54 blocks, and 20 service aces.
