Humboldt State's Kori Gilley Snags Individual Title at CCAA Championships

SAN BERNARDINO – Humboldt State sophomore Kori Gilley was up to the challenge of the 6,000-meter CSUSB campus course and captured the 2014 CCAA championship in 22 minutes, 29.3 seconds Saturday morning.

Chico State had five runners earn All-CCAA honors by placing in the top 15 and won the competition with 50 points, 22 better than runner-up Cal Poly Pomona (72). Humboldt State was third (98), followed by UC San Diego (120), San Francisco State (131), Cal State Stanislaus (147), Cal State San Bernardino (170), Cal State L.A. (170), Cal State Monterey Bay (213) and Cal State East Bay (315).

Cal Poly Pomona's Lizette Huerta was second in 22:35.7, Paxton Cota of San Francisco State third (22:36.1), Hannah Bell of Cal State Monterey Bay fourth (22:39.2) and Marissa Nickles of Cal Poly Pomona fifth (22:46.8).

Finishing sixth was Quetta Peinado of Chico State (22:49.2), seventh Paige Hughes of UC San Diego (22:49.7), eighth Corinne Hinkle of Uc San Diego (22:49.8), ninth Camila Turati of Chico State (22:51.3) and 10th Rebekah Bahra of Chico State (22:52.0).

The top 15 finishers earned All-CCAA honors. Finishing 11th-15th were: Cori Harral of San Francisco State, Alex Burhart of Chico State, Imani Heath of Cal State East Bay, Sadie Gastelum of Chico State and Patricia Cortez of Cal State San Bernardino.

Gilley was named the CCAA's Most Outstanding Runner with the Newcomer of the Year going to Tritons' Corinne Hinkle and Freshman of the Year to Wildcats' Camila Turati.

Gary Towne of Chico State was named the Conference's Coach of the Year.
