WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – For the second consecutive year, UC San Diego placed more players on the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Conference Teams than any other program in the conference, highlighting Thursday’s release of the annual postseason awards.

Following the Tritons closely was Sonoma State with five selections.  Cal Poly Pomona, which is making its first postseason appearance since 2004, have four All-Conference selections.

Cal State Stanislaus’ junior forward Karenee Demery has been honored as this year’s CCAA’s Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Year; she led the conference with 18 goals, including three hat tricks on the season.  UC San Diego senior Ellen Wilson has been selected the Most Valuable Defensive Player of the Year.  Wilson anchored the Tritons defensive line, which allowed only eight goals scored by their opponents this season.

The Freshman of the Year nod went to Cal Poly Pomona’s Megan Kissler.  Sonoma State’s forward Cara Curtin was tabbed Newcomer of the Year, in addition to First Team honors, after leading the Seawolves’ offense with 13 goals on the season.

The 2012 CCAA Coach of the Year also comes from Sonoma State.  Emiria Salzmann Dunn has been voted by her peers as the top coach of the conference in just her second year at the helm of the program.  She led the Seawolves to a 15-2-1 overall record and their first North Division title since 2008, sporting a 11-2-1 conference mark.

Cal State Stanislaus and UC San Diego placed conference highs with three players on the First Team.  The Warriors’ Demery is joined by senior midfielder Bernie Bettencourt and junior defender Emily Relles, while Tritons’ senior defender Haley Johnson shares First Team honors with two other teammates, senior midfielders Jessica Wi and Cassie Callahan.

Others receiving All-CCAA first team honors is Sonoma State junior Sara Studer, Cal State San Bernardino senior Jani Carmona-Urbano, as well as San Francisco State’s senior goalkeeper, Annicia Jones and senior forward Nicole Vanni.
