Kim Duyst helped shape the growth and success of cross country and track & field in the CCAA for more than two decades. She built a championship-caliber program at Stanislaus State while emerging as one of the most respected leaders in NCAA Division II athletics. During a distinguished career spanning more than 20 years, Duyst mentored generations of student-athletes and young coaches, elevated the Warriors to national prominence, and helped guide the direction of the sport at the conference, national, and international levels.
 
As head coach of the Warriors' men's and women's cross country and track & field programs for 21 years, Duyst established Stanislaus State as a consistent contender in NCAA Division II competition. Under her leadership, the Warriors produced nine individual national champions and more than 60 All-Americans. Her men's track & field team achieved one of the finest finishes in program history with a fourth-place performance at the 1994 NCAA Championships. All this happened while countless student-athletes flourished under her guidance both in the classroom and in their sport.
 
Duyst's excellence as a coach earned widespread recognition throughout her career. She was named CCAA Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1991, after sharing CCAA Coach of the Year honors in 1989. On the national stage, she was selected as the NCAA Women's Indoor Regional Coach of the Year in 2003. She earned NCAA Men's and Women's Indoor Regional Coach of the Year honors in 2004, reflecting the success of both Warriors programs under her leadership.
 
Beyond her accomplishments on the track, Duyst emerged as one of the most respected leaders in the sport. She served as president of the NCAA Division II Coaches Association and as vice president of the United States Track Coaches Association from 1992-94 (later renamed USTFCCCA). Her expertise and leadership were further recognized through appointments to the NCAA Track & Field Rules Committee from 1999-2003, where she helped shape the future of collegiate competition.
 
Duyst's influence extended well beyond collegiate athletics. She was selected to serve on Team USA coaching staffs at the 1998 World Cross Country Championships in Morocco, the 2001 World Track & Field Championships in Edmonton, and the 2003 World Track & Field Championships in Paris. Those appointments reflected the national and international respect she earned throughout the track & field community.
 
A member of the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame and recipient of numerous national honors, Duyst continued her service to the sport long after her coaching career concluded. Through her success at Stanislaus State, her leadership within the CCAA, and her contributions to the advancement of track & field nationwide, she established a legacy that extends far beyond any single program. Her accomplishments rank among the most significant ever achieved by a CCAA coach and place her among the most influential figures in NCAA Division II cross country and track & field history. In 2023, she was recognized as an NCAA Division II Gold Award nominee, one of the highest honors bestowed upon former Division II student-athletes, coaches, and administrators, further reflecting the lasting impact of her career and service to collegiate athletics.
