Few student-athletes in CCAA history have achieved the level of national dominance displayed by Scott Bauhs. During an extraordinary four-year career at Chico State (2004-08), Bauhs established himself as one of the most accomplished distance runners in NCAA Division II history, capturing three individual national championships and helping elevate the Wildcats to a perennial national powerhouse.
 
Bauhs made history by becoming the youngest American to break the four-minute mile (3:59.81) and go under 28 minutes in the 10,000 meters (27:46.06). He won three NCAA Division II individual championships in his career by taking the 10k title at the 2007 NCAA Championships and the 5k title at the 2008 NCAA Championships. He added an NCAA Cross Country title in the fall of 2008. He was named both the USTFCCCA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Athlete of the Year in 2008, and he added USTFCCCA Cross Country Athlete of the Year honors in the fall.  Bauhs finished his NCAA career with two national players of the year, three individual championships, and eight All-America honors.
 
At the conference level, Bauhs was even more dominant. He captured 12 individual CCAA championships across cross country and track & field, and earned CCAA Runner of the Year honors in 2008. Bauhs is also one of three CCAA student-athletes in conference history to earn CCAA Male Athlete of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons (2007 & 2008). His accomplishments helped establish Chico State as one of the nation's premier distance-running programs and set a standard of excellence that continues to define Wildcat cross country, which has won 23 consecutive CCAA Championships.
 
Following graduation, Bauhs continued his running career at the professional level, competing with the Mammoth Track Club and qualifying for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. In 2026, he became the first Chico State athlete inducted into the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Athlete Hall of Fame, further cementing his place among the sport's all-time greats.
 
Through his national championships, conference dominance, and lasting impact on collegiate distance running, Bauhs secured a legacy that extends far beyond Chico State. His accomplishments rank among the finest ever achieved by a CCAA cross country student-athlete and place him among the most decorated distance runners in NCAA Division II history.
