Lance Harter coached the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo women's cross country and the women's indoor and outdoor track and field program, from 1981-1990. 

He led the Mustangs to 14 NCAA Division II National Championships, including eight-consecutive titles in cross country (1982-89) and five outdoor track and field titles in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1989 and 1990 en route to being named the Division II National Coach of the Year 10 times. 

Harter was also tab bed the CCAA Coach of the Year numerous times after earning Conference crowns in both outdoor track and field and cross country for nine-straight years. 

In addition to his work with athletics, Harter was also an outstanding educator, earning Cal Poly's Teacher of the Year award twice during his nine-year tenure.
