Karen Miller was a pioneer for women's athletics in her 26 years as a coach, mentor and director of athletics at 
Cal Poly Pomona. 

Serving as the women's tennis coach from 1974-1984 she guided the Broncos to consecutive AIAW National Division II Championships in 1980 and 1981. 

In 1985, Miller became the CCAA's first-ever female director of athletics and was a part of seven national championships, including two titles in women's basketball (1985, 1986) and two in women's tennis (1991, 1992). She also oversaw one of the nation's top NCAA Division I softball teams, which made four World Series appearances during her tenure. 

In 1990 she received the Pomona Soroptomist Prism Award for Woman of the Year and was named to the Cal 
Poly Pomona Hall of Fame in 2014.
