The setter guided the Matadors to consecutive NCAA Finals appearances in 1986 and 1987 and to the program’s second NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship title in 1987. As a senior she was named the Cal State Northridge Female Athlete of the Year, the CCAA’s Most Valuable Player, and the Reebok National Player of the Year. Her most impressive honor was when she was named the 1987 Honda Broderick Athlete of the Year, topping all women’s volleyball players across all three NCAA divisions. Brinton-Collins’s name remains in the CSUN record books, ranking 1st in career hitting (.397), 4th in single-season hitting percentage (.363), and 10th with 1017 single-season assists. She was inducted to the Northridge Hall of Fame in 1993 and to the Glendale Community College Hall of Fame in 2011.
