For her efforts in helping power Cal State East Bay to a sweep over Cal Poly Humboldt, Annelise Garcia has been selected as the CCAA Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 22-28.
In the series, Garcia hit .636 (7-for-11) with six RBI and four runs scored. She had a hit in every game of the series and ended with a .636/.667/.818 slash line over the four-game set. She had a bases-clearing triple in the second game of the series to lead the Pioneers to the 5-1 win, and they carried that momentum on to the series sweep.
The freshman catcher now leads the CCAA with a .514 batting average and a .585 on-base percentage after reaching base safely in the first 14 games of her career. She is also second in slugging percentage (.800).
The sweep improved the Pioneers’ conference record to 6-2 and 12-5 overall. This week they will be on the road to face the No. 14 team in the country, Cal State Monterey Bay, in a four-game set starting on Friday, March 4.
