With another dominant outing, Cal Poly Pomona’s Will Rudy has earned another Baseball Pitcher of the Week award, this time for the week of April 11-17.
Rudy needed just 87 pitches to throw eight full innings without allowing a run in the Broncos’ 9-0 win over Stanislaus State last Friday night. The freshman from Irvine yielded two hits and struck out three with a walk to improve to 5-1.
After walking the first Warrior he faced, he retired 15 consecutive batters and faced the minimum through five innings. Rudy got out of a jam in the sixth with two Warriors on base and retired eight straight batters to end his eight-inning performance.
Rudy was the CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 28-March 6 after a 12-strikeout gem against then-No. 14 Chico State. He earned the top pitcher of the week award for March 21-27 after another 12-K outing against Sonoma State.
Rudy leads the conference with a 1.93 ERA and an opponent batting average of .178. He is also the CCAA leader with 67 strikeouts.
