Women's 6-Kilometer Race

SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif. – Chico State maintained its conference dominance as it captured the 2010 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at Whittier Narrows Regional Park in South El Monte.
Led by individual champion Kara Lubieniecki, the Wildcats placed seven runners in the top eight and finished with 19 points to easily out-distance second-place Cal Poly Pomona, which totaled 72 points.
Cal State Stanislaus (125) placed third and was followed by Cal State L.A. (137), UC San Diego (145), Cal State San Bernardino (153), San Francisco State (170), Humboldt State (179), Sonoma State (230), Cal State Dominguez Hills (261) and Cal State Monterey Bay (335).
Lubieniecki, a senior, won the six-kilometer race in a time of 21:30.2 to finish ahead of Cal Poly Pomona sophomore Tiffany Dinh (21:37.4). Chico State teammates Jonah Weeks (21:46.7), Stephanie Consiglio (21:57.6) and Shannon Rich (22:07) rounded out the top five.
Lubieniecki earned Runner of the Year honors, while Cal Poly Pomona’s Sarah Gulli was named Freshman of the Year and Michelle Johnson of Chico State was tabbed Newcomer of the Year.
Gulli turned in a time of 23:08.4 to place 24th, while Johnson finished 10th with a time of 22:23.1.
Chico State head coach Gary Towne was named Coach of the Year for the third straight year.
