San Marcos Frosh Nets First Player of the Week Award of 2018 Sep 4, 2018 SAN RAMON, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos freshman Juan Camilo Salazar started off his collegiate career with gusto en route to the first CCAA Player of the Week award of the season, for the week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2. Salazar, a forward from Medellin, Colombia, racked up four points in the opening weekend’s pair of games. He assisted on the equalizer goal by Andrew Stalboerger in the first half of the Cougars’ 2-1 season-opening win over Concordia-Irvine to notch his first collegiate point. Then, Salazar booted in a penalty kick to open the scoring in Saturday’s overtime victory against Biola. The last time Cal State San Marcos opened the season with two victories was in 2014 when the Cougars finished with a 13-4 record. The Cougars have one more week of non-conference games on the docket before diving into the CCAA slate.
