Karla Santos Earns First Player of the Week Award for 2018
SAN RAMON – Cal State LA sophomore Karla Santos picked up right where the 2017 CCAA Freshman of the Year left off, garnering the season’s first Player of the Week award, for Aug. 20-26. This marks the third CCAA Player of the Week accolade in Santos’ young collegiate career.
Hailing from Manati, Puerto Rico, Santos helped the Golden Eagles to a 4-0 record at the Concordia-Irvine Invitational, picking up tournament Most Valuable Player honors in the process. Santos netted a team-high 66 kills to go along with 54 digs and six service aces in 15 sets of action. She capped the weekend with a 21-kill, 19-dig double-double to lead Cal State LA to a come-from-behind five-set win over Pac West favorite Azusa Pacific and also recorded 20 kills in a three-set win over host Concordia.
Cal State LA will return to action on Friday in another early-season tournament. The Golden Eagles will face pod hosts Dominican, Point Loma, Concordia-Portland and Alaska in the D2 West Region Showcase in San Rafael.
